LITTLE FALLS, NY – Herkimer County HealthNet is pleased to have received a
check in the amount of $2,032 from Althea Noyes of Little Falls as part of a
fundraiser held by students of the Little Falls Modified Softball Team,
National Honor Society, and high school physical education classes. The
event was held in honor of the Walk for Wanda cause, an effort that started
more than 8 years ago for diabetes awareness.
Althea Noyes, Walk for Wanda Chairperson said, “Despite the pandemic, Little
Falls High School Physical Education Teacher Mrs. Toohey felt that it was
still important for students to volunteer their time while still in high
school.” Students walked during their physical education classes, study
halls after their homework was completed, and during their lunch periods
after they finished eating.
Proceeds for the Walk for Wanda Fundraiser will benefit Herkimer County
HealthNet type 2 diabetes prevention and ‘living with diabetes’ classes and
activities for Herkimer County residents.
Herkimer County HealthNet’s Executive Director, Elyse Enea said, “We are
still hosting and offering virtual type-2 diabetes and living with diabetes
classes as well as other chronic diseases. We are continuing our aim to
reduce the number of people living with diabetes in Herkimer County.” This
fundraising activity directly benefits local activities for people who have
diabetes, pre-diabetes and other chronic conditions. Herkimer County
