HealthNet aids Ilion with crosswalks, pedestrian signals

Herkimer County HealthNet has been collaborating with the village of Ilion on numerous projects that address health and safety issues for its citizens. Through the Local IMPACT grant from the state Department of Health, HealthNet provided the village with funding to repaint more than 60 crosswalks and pedestrian signals.

Class fights chronic illness with recipes, food

Ever had eggplant pizza, beet burgers or pickled rainbow chard stems? These are the kinds of recipes that could help people with certain chronic diseases get healthier. That’s why Herkimer County HealthNet and The Root Farm are partnering on a healthy cooking class for people with illnesses that can be improved by better diet, such as high blood pressure, diabetes and prediabetes.

Herkimer County HealthNet has hopes to install signs designating one-mile walking trails through a handful of county municipalities. The Mohawk Valley Mile program is a new initiative implemented as part of a Local IMPACT grant from the state Department of Health awarded to HealtheConnections in Syracuse.
